Trainer Mark Wildman’s no-nonsense persona cuts through the noise of stale fitness orthodoxy & has turned archaic coaching on its head. In its place, Wildman has laid an unshakeable foundation for lifelong fitness with his emphasis on a simple, crucial mantra: “Get Better at Being Human”, expounding upon a philosophy that identifies and defines the “Six Primary Human Movement Patterns” for a totally-customizable procedural template that breaks all the rules and puts athletes in control of their progress.

Wildman’s roster of accomplished clientele reflects his unique place along a liminal boundary where the creative and the pragmatic collide. For the better part of two decades Mark has been trusted to cultivate a functional aesthetic while training a diverse field of athletes: his clients are aerialists and circus artists, stunt performers and actors from Hollywood’s vaunted “A-List”, along with martial artists of every discipline and style.

Scientific Approach to Building Strength And Mobility

Wildman’s background as a USC-educated BioChemical Engineer informs his scientific approach to the fields of kinesiology and fitness, giving him a competitive advantage in the lofty world of elite athletics. His methods build on his proprietary mathematics and scientific philosophies that are as grounded as they are ground-breaking, with work that has advanced the field of dynamic weight training, in general, although he is recognized as an authoritative talent with the Kettlebell, the Clubbell, and the Mace, in particular.

Mark’s perfectionism continually presses him to evolve as both instructor and practitioner, and he’s often found testing out new training tools, while he employs his studio as a laboratory space for his “mad scientist” sensibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are currently active, able to exercise and are not suffering from an injury, start with the Kettlebell Swings Program to learn the Hip/Hinge which is the foundational movement for everything after. You can also start with the 2-Handed Club Program which covers this, as well. Start with a weight you can manage, and then advice in weight and more athletic programs.

The focus of this type of training is strength, endurance, and mobility. These are not weight loss programs…but yes, you may see some weight loss, depending on your level of conditioning and body composition when you start.

These training programs are not 6 week programs to make you look a certain way. These are training programs to make you function in a way that creates athleticism, and functionality that most people have lost in the modern world. You have to give your body time to adapt to the new movements, load, torque and traction you are asking it to do. Once your tendons and ligaments strengthen to keep things together, you will begin to look more athletic. If you train to function correctly, you end up looking good by accident.

Almost everyone has a nagging injury of some kind to deal with. Depending on your old injury or mobility issues (please consult a physician if you have questions about your health and training), almost everyone can benefit from swinging weights. The key is to start with a weight you can manage, move correctly through the exercise to regain your range of motion, and then slowly and methodically increasing the weight over time.

No. However, the goal of this type of training is to train anywhere. Get back out into the world and live a life of adventure. In the beginning, you can supplement your gym training with any of the Wildman Athletica programming. Eventually, most athletes spend less time in the gym and more time at home or out in the wild with kettlebells, clubs, maces, sandbags and other “non-traditional” fitness gear that were used in the ancient world.

You will soon find that swinging a kettlebell or club will get your heart rate up just as good as a fancy, expensive machine at the gym. But it’s much more functional. You are working on strength, stamina and endurance at the same time. If you train correctly, you will burn more calories than traditional gym training or cardio, with more benefits.

Yes. These are complete multi year programs that you will train for the rest of your life. These programs increase your athleticism so you can do “other things” in the world.
